Creating a reminder is easy! Follow these steps:

1. Open the app and tap the + button
2. Select a location (Home, Work, Gym, etc.) or create a custom one
3. Add items you want to remember
4. Set when you want to be reminded (time, day, or recurring)
5. Tap Save and you're done!

To add a custom location:

1. Go to the Locations tab
2. Tap the + button
3. Enter a name for your location (e.g., "Parent's House")
4. Optionally, select an icon to represent it
5. Tap Save

You can now create reminders for this location!

One-Time Reminders: These trigger once at the specific date and time you set. Perfect for appointments, meetings, or special occasions.

Recurring Reminders: These repeat on a schedule you define—daily, weekly, or custom days. Ideal for regular routines like "Every Monday before Work" or "Every day before the Gym."

When you first install Before Leaving, we'll ask for notification permissions. If you denied them or need to re-enable:

1. Open your iPhone's Settings
2. Scroll down and tap Before Leaving
3. Tap Notifications
4. Toggle Allow Notifications on
5. Enable Sounds, Badges, and Banners as desired

Before Leaving checks the weather forecast for your area and automatically suggests relevant items:

• ☔ Rain expected: Suggests umbrella, rain jacket
• ☀️ Sunny day: Suggests sunglasses, sunscreen
• ❄️ Cold weather: Suggests jacket, gloves, scarf
• 🌡️ Hot weather: Suggests water bottle, hat

For this feature to work, you need to allow location access for weather data.

Kid Mode is a simplified interface designed for children:

• Larger, colorful buttons that are easy to tap
• Simplified navigation with fewer options
• Fun icons and visual feedback
• Essential features only—no complex settings

Enable it in Settings → Accessibility → Kid Mode.

Elderly Mode enhances accessibility for seniors:

• Extra large text throughout the app
• High contrast colors for better visibility
• Simplified navigation with clear labels
• Voice guidance option for key actions
• Larger touch targets

Enable it in Settings → Accessibility → Elderly Mode.

Groups let you share reminders with family, friends, or teams:

1. Create a Group: Go to Groups tab → tap + → name your group
2. Invite Members: Share your unique invite code with others
3. Join a Group: Enter an invite code you received
4. Share Reminders: Create reminders visible to all group members

All members see real-time updates when items are checked off!

Add voice notes to any item for audio reminders:

1. Open a reminder and tap on an item
2. Tap the microphone icon 🎤
3. Record your voice note
4. Tap stop when finished

Voice notes are perfect for detailed instructions or pronunciation reminders.

Before Leaving includes gamification to make staying organized fun:

• Achievements: Unlock badges for milestones like "First Reminder," "Week Streak," or "100 Items Checked"
• Streaks: Build consecutive days of completing your reminders
• Points: Earn points for completing items and maintaining streaks
• Virtual Pets/Plants: Care for virtual companions that grow as you stay organized

Yes! Before Leaving is fully optimized for iPad with:

• iPad-optimized layouts that take advantage of the larger screen
• Split View and Slide Over support for multitasking
• Keyboard shortcut support
• All iPhone features available
• Syncs seamlessly between iPhone and iPad via iCloud

Download the same app from the App Store—it works on both iPhone and iPad!

Yes! Your data automatically syncs across all your devices:

• Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID on both devices
• iCloud sync is enabled by default
• Changes sync within seconds when connected to the internet
• Works offline too—syncs when you're back online

Before Leaving requires:

• iPhone: iOS 16.0 or later
• iPad: iPadOS 16.0 or later
• Apple Watch: watchOS 9.0 or later

We recommend keeping your devices updated for the best experience and latest features.

Currently, Before Leaving is available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. A dedicated Mac app is not available yet, but you can:

• Use the iPad app on Apple Silicon Macs via "iPhone & iPad Apps"
• Use iCloud to access your data across devices

The Apple Watch app syncs automatically with your iPhone:

• View your upcoming reminders on your wrist
• Mark items as complete directly from the watch
• See progress for current reminders
• Get notifications on your watch

Make sure Before Leaving is installed on your Apple Watch through the Watch app on your iPhone.

Add Before Leaving complications for quick access:

1. Long-press on your watch face
2. Tap Edit
3. Swipe to the complications screen
4. Tap a complication slot
5. Scroll to find Before Leaving
6. Select your preferred complication style

Add Before Leaving widgets to your iPhone home screen:

1. Long-press on your home screen until apps jiggle
2. Tap the + button in the top-left corner
3. Search for Before Leaving
4. Choose your preferred widget size
5. Tap Add Widget
6. Drag it to your desired position

On iPhone 14 Pro and later, Before Leaving supports Live Activities:

• Dynamic Island: Shows your active reminder with real-time item count
• Lock Screen: Persistent reminder display without unlocking
• Progress Updates: See items checked off in real-time

Enable this in Settings → Notifications → Live Activities.

If notifications aren't working, try these steps:

1. Check that notifications are enabled in iPhone Settings → Before Leaving → Notifications
2. Make sure Do Not Disturb and Focus modes aren't blocking notifications
3. Verify the reminder is set to the correct time/date
4. Ensure the app isn't force-closed (swipe up and away from the app switcher)
5. Restart your iPhone
6. If using Low Power Mode, some notifications may be delayed

To troubleshoot watch syncing:

1. Make sure your iPhone and Apple Watch are connected (check Control Center)
2. Ensure both devices have sufficient battery
3. Open the Before Leaving app on both devices to trigger a sync
4. Restart both your iPhone and Apple Watch
5. Re-install the watch app if issues persist

Try these solutions:

1. Make sure you're running the latest version of the app (check the App Store for updates)
2. Restart the app by force-closing and reopening
3. Restart your iPhone
4. Free up storage space if your device is nearly full
5. If the issue persists, contact us with details about when the crash occurs

Your data is stored locally by default. If you uninstall the app, local data is deleted. To protect your data:

• Use iCloud backup to backup your entire device
• Use the group feature which stores data in the cloud
• Before uninstalling, export important data if available

Weather features require location access:

1. Go to iPhone Settings → Privacy → Location Services
2. Find Before Leaving and select "While Using the App" or "Always"
3. Ensure you have an internet connection for weather data
4. Check that the weather feature is enabled in app Settings

Before Leaving offers several beautiful themes:

1. Go to Settings in the app
2. Tap Appearance or Theme
3. Browse available themes: Pink, Green, Coral Reef, Cosmic Explorer, Forest Glow, Cherry Blossom, Goldfish
4. Tap a theme to preview and apply it

Customize your notification sounds:

1. Go to Settings in the app
2. Tap Sounds
3. Choose from available notification sounds
4. Tap a sound to preview it
5. Your selection is saved automatically

Before Leaving supports 7 languages. To change:

1. Go to Settings → Language
2. Select your preferred language: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, or Traditional Chinese
3. The app will update immediately

Note: The app also respects your iOS language settings.

You have full control over your data:

• Delete individual items: Swipe left on any item and tap Delete
• Delete a reminder: Open the reminder, tap the menu (⋯), select Delete
• Delete all data: Uninstalling the app removes all local data
• Delete group data: Leave the group or contact us for cloud data deletion
